Supreme Beings of Leisure

Posted: December 17, 2007

"Leisure is given a bad rap in our society," notes Supreme Beings of Leisure singer/lyricist, Geri Soriano-Lightwood. "But those moments of rest and repose are important to feed the soul." Fortunately, Supreme Beings of Leisure (SBL) are here to help right that imbalance. With two releases under their belt, 2000s self-titled debut and 2002s sophomore effort Divine Operating System (D.O.S.), the Los Angeles duo delivers on their signature sound imbued with laid-back glamour, witty drama, seductive allure, and cinematic lushness. SBLs wide ranging palette of influences spanning decades, countries and genres come together in one uniquely modern and luxuriously irresistible mélange; a cosmopolitan blend for the sophisticated music lover.

Supreme Beings of Leisure was born in 1996, when Geri (who was working on a solo project) was recruited by the guys to sing on some tracks. Two cuts released under the bands original moniker, Oversoul 7, were picked up by indie dance imprint Moonshine. These songs kick started a buzz that culminated in SBL signing to Palm Pictures. Bolstered by terrific Internet, retail, and lifestyle support for a relatively unknown band, the groups two releases have garnered favorable coverage in Rolling Stone, Details, Interview, Elle, Wired, Billboard, Keyboard, Seventeen, and the New York Times. SBL tracks have graced numerous films (Sweetest Thing, Igby Goes Down, Hamlet); television shows (Alias, Dawsons Creek, Third Watch, CSI: Miami); national and international ad campaigns (JC Penney, Breil Watch, Lancia Lybra,). Worldwide they have sold over 300,000 records.

Ramin and Geris list of collaborators include: String arrangers Suzi Katayama (Bjork, Prince, Garth Brooks, Incubus), Bill Meyers (Madonna, Michael Jackson), Scott Tibbs (Faith Evans, Nelly), DJ Swamp (Beck, Crystal Method, Morcheeba), Marty Friedman (Megadeth Guitarist), Farhang Sharif (world renowned Iranian Tar player), Manoocher Sadeghi (master Santur player), and engineer Jimi Randolph (Slave, Earth Wind and Fire, Al Greene).

After a brief hiatus to live up to the name and "feed their souls" SBL are back in the studio finishing up work on their third release. "Our 2 previous albums have been collections of songs that we wrote during those periods of time," observes producer/programmer Ramin Sakurai. "This new album is more of a book with each song being a different chapter. ..3 is meant to be read cover to cover."

Geri and Ramin clearly share a special creative symbiosis and invite all to partake in their personal philosophy "Anyone who places a premium on enjoying life, and dedicates themselves to their passions is a Supreme Being of Leisure," says Geri
