If you want to move away from the endless fluff and pop of manufactured acts; or the present clutch of (albeit talented) 'brit girl' artists presently on the music scene, look no further than The Dirty.
One of the innovative new bands signed to the Brownpunk label, The Dirty are a rock group gaining a reputation for great songs and incredible live performances.
Touted by the music media as a definite hit for 2008, The Dirty are a four piece band that hail from London, (although their arresting lead singer, Kyrill Khieninson ,was born in Russia and moved to the UK when he was 10).
Their mentor, Tricky, believes they are a ‘throwback band’ to the days when artists recorded songs that were raw but full of meaning. Tricky, a renowned and influential lyricist himself, spoke highly of their writing abilities during an interview on Radio 1 in October 2007.
“It doesn’t matter how much technology you’ve got, It all comes down to good old fashioned songwriting. I think they just write great songs”
Fortunately Brownpunk, a record label that doesn't compromise its artists creativity, allows the group to record their work in its pure and brilliant form.
In addition to their rock influences The Dirtys music often has a punk feel and occasionally veers towards blues. Respected DJ Zane Lowe feels the band has a contemporary edge but with a heritage feel to their sound.
“We get a great reaction whenever we play that record, there’s something immediate about that” he said after playing their debut single "Why, I Think It's Love" on his show towards the end of 2007.
Their energy on stage is amazing, and Kyrill Khieninson in particular is riveting. The Brownpunk website urges you to see them in the flesh “The live performance is a trip into showmanship and on-stage abandon”
They have supported Iggy Pop (which is fitting as Khieninson sounds brilliantly like him), and toured with Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster amongst others.

"Why, I Think It's Love" encapsulates all that's great about the band” The Independent 26 November 2007.
