Check out the new single from Mongrel, a newly formed indie supergroup formed by John McClure frontman of Reverend and the Makers who's joined forces with fellow bandmate Joe Moskow on Synths, Arctic Monkeys drummer, Matt Helders, ex-Monkeys bassist Andy Nicholson, Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell on guitar and London rapper Lowkey of Poisonous Poets.

The theme of the music is politically driven and heavily influenced by rap, dub and hip-hop the outcome of which is a uniquely mixed up style with sharp lyrics which provide a refreshing change to the mainstream of music out at the moment.

Check out the video to their debut 'The Menace' below which is taken from their debut EP out november 5th and give us your thoughts....

Heavy metal vetrans, Metallica have released their new album, 'Death Magnetic' a couple of days early in the Uk (although the official worldwide release date remains as Sept. 12th).

It's been speculated that the rockers are worried about losing the album charts Number One Slot to Indie newcomers Glasvegas who released their self named, debut album, this week.

According to the midweek charts the Scottish band, Glasvegas have already sold 100,000 copies of their album and are currently in the fore-running to secure the coverted top spot.

The race is on.... who do you want to see come out on top?

Check out their latest videos below and give me your thoughts...

Metallica ' The Day That Never Comes' (Death Magnetic Sep 2008)

Glasvegas 'Daddy's Gone (2008)' (Glasvegas Sep 2008).

Oasis's Noel Gallagher has hit the headlines yet again, this time for revealling his top 10 bands. The singer song-writer wrote a blog on the band's official website following a recent gig on Oasis's North American tour.

"In the dressing room the traditional debate has started about 'The Top 10'....This means the Top 10 bands of all time. No solo artists allowed. No female artists allowed. No collectives allowed (Public Enemy etc.).

"This is the 1,000th time we’ve been here with this. It never gets any less interesting for me. For the record, THE DEFINITIVE Top 10 is this.."

The star's list then reads:

1: The Beatles
2: The Rolling Stones
3: The Who
4: Sex Pistols
5: The Kinks
6: The La's
7: Pink Floyd
8: The Bee Gees
9: The Specials
10: (Peter Green's) Fleetwood Mac

Well few surprises there.. think everyone would expect the Gallagher's to site their heroes The Beatles at the number one spot!!!

So what do you think about the list and who would you put on there?

Hard to choose 10 bands but here goes:

  1. The Beatles
  2. The Doors
  3. The Pixies
  4. The Jam
  5. Stone Roses
  6. Blur
  7. Led Zeppelin
  8. The Who
  9. The Rolling Stones
  10. The Clash

So I read that Led Zeppelin members; Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham, (son of the band's late drummer John Bonham) have been writing some new material together.

Hopefully this means that the rumours of  a new album, which have been rife since their one off re-union gig at the O2 Arena last December
, could actually become true.

Talking to Detroit radio station WCSX, Jason Bonham said; "....I've been working with Jimmy and John Paul and trying to do ... some new material and some writing. I don't know what it will be, but it will be something.....”

However one thing's for sure, Led Zeppelin fans will have a bit of a wait for a new album if it does happen as frontman, Robert Plant (who is currently touring with Alison Krauss) has yet to be involved with the sessions and according to Jason there are still a lot of "politics" to iron out before the band could go any further!!!!!!

The countdown is on for the release of PINK's latest single, 'So What' a punchy track referring to the sassy singer's split from Biker husband , Carey Hart, which is the leading track taken from her forthcoming, as yet unamed, fifth studio album, scheduled for release at the end of October.

alt

alt

The video for the track will be aired from August 22nd and features Pink taking a chainsaw to a tree bearing a carving of a heart bearing her real name, Alicia, and that of her estranged husband, Carey. As well as scenes of her riding a  mini tractor on the highway and swigging vodka, overlayed by powerful lyrics including "....I guess I just lost my husband. I don't know where he went..." and "....I don't need you and guess what, I'm havin' more fun....." Despite this the singer insists they remain best friends!!!!

Amongst the albums released in the UK this week there are two gems which stand out head and shoulders above the rest;

Indie legends Primal Scream released their ninth studio album 'Beautiful Future' - a collection of 11 fabulous tracks all in their unique style of mashed up soul, dark electro beats, resounding bass, rock 'n' roll riffs and classic pop overlayed by Bobby Gillespie's unmistakable vocals. This album, for me their best since Screamadelica,  features input from Lovefoxx of CSS, folk legend Linda Thompson and Queens of The Sone Age's Josh Homme and is produced by Paul Epworth (Bloc Party) and Bjorn Yttling of Peter Bjorn & John.

Check out the video for the hit single 'Can't Go Back' the first to be released as a single
a top tune with as always... a fabulous bass line from Mani...

The other album released this week which really stands out is from Brazilian electro-rock group CSS who have followed up their 2006 debut with their second album a more mature and polished offering; 'Donkey' -  A fabulously upbeat arrangement of 11 tracks in their unique style which was produced by new bassist and  former drummer Adriano Cintra.

Check out the video for the second single taken from the album; '
Left Behind' - A really catchy track.... top tune for the summer....

You can also check out their albums on myspace.........

Anyone else out there slightly addicted to Big Brother 9?Like everytimeI tried really hard not to get into it but have quickly deveoped into an avid viewer!!!!! As expected there's a crazy mix of characters in the BB House, some of whom seem ok and some of whom are just goddam annoying so what's appealing about the show?
Well for me it has to be the tasks the housemates have to complete some of which are totally hilarious!!!!!!!!!!

My favourites have to be when the whole group were dressed up in all in one metallic lycra jumpsuits receiving an electric shock in the arse when Dennis and Rachel hit the wire on the supersize steady hand wire track.

And the task they had to do the other day, when the group had to choose 4 housemates to recreate, OK GO's famous music video 'Here it Goes Again' also known as The Treadmill Song!!!!!

Check out both versions here............

Great fun to see more of OK GO click HERE

The final countdown is on for Glastonbury Festival which will be opened next Friday, June 27th by Kate Nash and the bets are on... will it be wet and muddy or nice and sunny!!!

alt   alt   alt

According to weather forecasts, it's not looking too bad for Somerset over the weekend. It's been predicted that Friday and Saturday will feature some rain early on which will clear whilst Sunday should be nice all day. I doubt a few showers will dampen any of the revellers spirit.... for many it wouldn't be Glastonbury without a spot of rain!!!!!

Meanwhile reports are that Amy Winehouse, who is said to be suffering from the early stages of emphysema!!!!! will be well enough to perform her set on the Saturday before Jay-Z who apparently, will be given a VIP tour of the festival site by organiser, Michael Eavis in a bid to show him that the event is attended by city kids as well as country folk!!!!!

Would love to hear from anyone who goes to Glastonbury this year to hear the gossip and see some pics... unfortunately I can't make it this year but I'll be watching the coverage..... Will be interesting to hear how Jay-Z's performance goes down!!!!  Will definately be watching Kings of Leon's headlining set on Friday.... they rock!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget your wellies!!!!!

Sex Pistol's outragously outspoken frontman, 'John Lydon'  verbally attacked Coldplay this weekend in an interview backstage at the Isle of Wight Festival. The aging singer compared the group to a bunch of 'men in anoraks'

alt

He stated "...They are utterly humourless... I met them a few years ago, said hello and realised that they were just men in anoraks......" He then went on to slam the groups' fans saying that he felt sorry for them, calling them "...slightly inadequate, half-baked people..." Although he did  also admit of Coldplay's songs that there are "..a couple of nice tones here and there..."

alt

So what do you think? Is John Lydon just a crazy has been punk-rocker......Or are Coldplay lame?

Well it's a collaboration which I reckon will work a treat....Lily Allen is teaming up to provide vocals on a track which will feature on the Kaiser Chief's forthcoming album which is being produced by award winning Mark Ronson.

                                      alt       alt       alt
Oh my God .....it's Lily the Pink!!!!!!!

Ronson is working on both Allen and the Kaiser Chief's own records and encouraged them to work together. He has described the track as a great summer anthem saying "It sounds awesome. Lily and Ricky Wilson's vocals really gel and the instumentals are top drawer..."  Nothing like blowing your own trumpet!!!!!!!  I look forward to hearing it!

By the way.... what do you all reckon to Lily's new hairdo?

Leona Lewis has proven without doubt, that she has got the talent to succeed by topping the UK and US charts with both her debut single, 'Bleeding Love' and her debut album, 'Spirit'. But according to reports in the Sun Newspaper today it appears that topping the charts in both countries isn't enough to secure her star status in the States!!

alt

I was amazed to read that the slim singer's image doesn't quite cut it, according to her advisers her image needs 'polishing' and she is being encouraged to tone up and project more of a sexy image like her US counterparts, Mariah Carey and J-Lo. Apparently, her promotional team are signing up Mariah Carey's personal trainer to get her toned up!!!!! They feel that to secure more longevity in the States she needs a more toned and sexy image!!!!!!!

I think this is incredible!!!!  She looks fabulous and healthy as she is, lets hope she continues to!!!! Hopefully she is grounded enough not to develop any of the insecurities which seem to surround so many young popstars in the size zero obsessed land of celebrities!!!!

What are your thoughts?

This weekend music fans, journalists, promoters and A&Rs alike will all be descending on the streets of Camden to check out all the hottest new bands taking part in the seventh annual 'Crawl', a two day event, during which a mix of 130 established and breaking acts will be performing at 25 venues along the mile stretch from Mornington crescent to Chalk Farm.

Over the past few years the mini-festival has played host to and given great exposure to loads of artists such as Kate Nash, Snow Patrol, Klaxons, The Fratellis, Hot Chip and Hadouken!

A couple of artists hottly tipped to be a huge success this year in Camden include Friendly Fires and Sam Sparro.

I read in a recent interview with Newsbeat of BBC Radio 1 that The Enemy's lead singer, Tom Clarke is hoping to team up with Jon McClure of  Reverned and the Makers. Apparently the highly politicised Northern lads have become mates since meeting at a recent charity gig for the homeless.
                                                                   alt     alt

I love both 'The Enemy' and 'Reverend and the Makers', and reckon that Tom and Jon would form a fabulous collaboration. They are both excellent songwriters who write great tunes with socially aware interesting lyrics. Let's hope they can find time in their busy shedules to get together....At the moment both bands are busy working on their second albums of which I'm eagerly awaiting.

It's been announced on the official O2 Wireless Festival website that rapper Jay-Z will be headlining the festival on July 3rd. The four day Festival will be held in Hyde Park in London  from July 3rd till the 6th.  Other confirmed artists include Mark Ronson, Hot Chip, Roisin Murphy Morrissey, Fatboy Slim, and Counting Crows.

This announcement is sure to fuel the rumours circulating that Jay-Z may pull out of Glastonbury which at present have been denied by organiser, Michael Eavis who insists the rapper will still headline the festival on the Saturday.

Kasabian are going to be headlining Creamfields Festival 2008 (UK) which this year is celebrating it's 10 year anniversary.  The Leicester band who are currently working on a new album are delighted to be performing at the two-day event this summer.

Tom Meigham, the band's frontman has said...'We have heard great things about the festival over the years and it's an honour to be asked to headline on its 10th anniversary....It will be great to bring our sound to a fresh northern crowd.'

The dance fest will take place in Cheshire over the August bank holiday weekend of Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th. As always there will be a fantastic line-up of pop and rock bands complimenting the vast DJ arena. Artists confirmed so far include: Gossip, Ian Brown, Simian Mobile Disco, Paul Van Dyk, Sasha and Fatboy Slim.

Kasabian will also be appearing at the Hydro Connect Music Festival in Argyll, Scotland, August 29 - 31 alongside Franz Ferdinand, Manic Street preechers, Duffy and The Coral....

I've recently come across new artist Gabriella Cilmi, an Australian singer songwriter with a fabulous vocal style reminiscent of Chrissie Hynde.

MissP and Babimagic, reckon you'll both really like her sound, hard to believe she's only 16!!!!!

Check out her debut single, 'Sweet About Me'  by clicking on the following link.....

Hey Babs, and all Amy fans, I read a report today that Amy Winehouse is going to be starring in the new series of Doctor Who!!!

Amy will be playing the part of a rogue Time Lord, 'The Rani', an evil scientific genius!!!! Her appearance will be in the series finale of the show starring David Tennant as 'The Doctor'. The new series starts again in the Uk this Saturday (April 5th)

Apparently Amy and Blake are huge fans of the sci-fi series!!! Will definately have to watch out for that episode!!!

I recently came across American photographer Autumn de Wilde who is noted for her photography of indie musicians.

Her portfolio consists of numerous portraits, cd covers and music videos. She has created cd covers for the likes of Beck, The White Stripes, Fiona Apple and The Raconteurs. She has directed music videos for Elliot Smith Spoon and most recently The Raconteurs.

Autumn created the music video for The Raconteurs latest single, 'Salute Your Solution' using a compostion of 2,500 photos resulting in what appears to be a filmed performance.

Some photos.....
